Final design ideas

This is my final design for the building wayfinding the only icons made will be of the ones relevent to inside of this building and the key coded board will be infront of the building. The icons will follow each other connected with paint splatter and will start outside the building and continue inside the building on the floor as stickers until the reach the block/department they belong to and once they do a final much larger version will be displayed in there area.

Wayfinding location

I want the icons to be followed on the ground as if they are guides for each department so on the gravel they should be painted with a white outline and be followed by there colour - and if the icons are on lighter surfaces then black outlines may be used

I first started with a simple shape for a head and body using a bold black outline and only colour within the arrow I then started to develop these personalising the figures with characteristics for example one that may be used to find the music block has headphones on its head. This should be obvious enough but there will be an easy to follow key with colour coding also. I realized that spreading these around the grounds may not be very successful if they are too spread out as not all would follow a straight line so I decided that splattered paint it droplets would connect each figure and the paint colour will match the colour that the figure has inside its arrow. Finally I looked back at some of D*face' work and decided to sharpen the figures a bit - unlike his work and Blek le Rat I have not used much detail but I did add some more shadow and character. I think as most of their work is presented in large scales as solo pieces not full way finding it was important to make adjustments accordingly and not over complicate these as people need to be able to follow them easily without it seeming too clustered or confusing.
Here is a poster I made using inks it is not the actual designs that I want to use but it is a portrayal of my ideas the black outlined figures would be directing around the school and they will all be allocated different colours (this will be depicted with a key board). These figures will all be different and will have characteristics of certain strands/ areas for example the canteen directory may have a chefs hat and use a yellow coloured arrow.

I have mainly been focusing on the wayfinding in the school because the school is very spaced out and so are the different strands and it can be difficult to find your way around so I think making clear wayfinding is important. I wanted the majority of the directing to be painted onto the grounds and floors. My initial ideas was inspired by D*Face who usually has very cartoony colourful bold designs but I didnt want to have a huge amount going on technically or coulour wise because I feel for wayfinding simple is best. I was also interested in blek le rat maybe more because of the 'street' approach and location of his work and how it is on walls as I would like to have mine on the ground.

This sign was around was just a local road sign but it thought it would be interesting for a similar wayfinding to be mirrored within the school making it a little more edgy.
I saw this wall in croydon made for a new centre I quite like it because it is a clear representation of the centre by having the movements and activities you may have in a gym.
